Affordable Design Awards 2013 – The Winners!

Our Inspiration Blog team spent a wonderful weekend evaluating every entry in our “Affordable Design” competition. The great British public nominated over 200 objects for consideration and the final six below were chosen as winners:
Affordable Design Award 2013 – Conceal Book Shelf, designed by Miron Lior for Umbra
Nominated by Amanda O’Donnel who will win our iPad Mini + design apps
“I admire the simplicity of this design which fits the purpose but also injects a little magic into the home with your favourite books appearing to float on the wall. Such a simple design that would bring years of pleasure even with changing moods and in any room. It’s very accessible too at £15.” Ian Monk, CEO of

Runner up- Spinit collapsible laundry bin by Habitat
Nominated by Yasmine Choudhry who will win an inspiration design book
“A hardwearing, fun and practical solution to the messy laundry problem. At £35 it’s a great piece of design that suits its purpose and stores flat when you need the room. I’d love one for my own home!” Alex, Social Team,
Runner up- Jpegs, designed by John Caswell for Thabto
Nominated by Suzanne Bearne who will win an inspiration design book.
“Super design with an interesting twist. The Jpegs have strong magnets in them so you can use them on your fridge to hang tea towels or screw them to the wall in any room for larger items. Pegging on an image, list or notes turn a simple solution to an ingenious one. They’d look great painted too and at £12 for 3 I’d try them.” Ellie, Social Team,
Runner up- Pure ONE Mini Series II Union Jack Limited Edition
Nominated by Michael Coupar who will win an inspiration design book.
“This DAB radio is available online for between £40 and £50. It’s compact, portable (with an additional battery pack) and proudly patriotic. Because it’s so compact and bold in design, it would be a great addition to any eclectic interior.” Mia, Social Team,
Runner up- You’re a Doll Babushka Mug by Maxwell & Williams
Nominated by Sue O’Brien who will win an inspiration design book.
“You don’t always want to hide the little things away and these mugs form a kitch character when stacked at home. The colours are great and they’re only £15 for the set.” Alex, Social Team,
