Choosing a new shower

Choosing a new shower

Whether you are replacing your existing shower, or looking for a whole new combination for your bathroom including a new shower enclosure or shower bath it is important to make sure you make the right choice before installation. We have compiled some useful tips and advice to help you in selecting the perfect products and creating that exhilarating shower space that will last you for many years to come.

Start with careful measuring, not just of the space in which you wish to position a new shower enclosure or shower bath but also the space around the shower and whether it will accommodate the opening of shower doors or bath screens. You’ll also want to consider the space you’ll need to dry off afterwards particularly in relation to other facilities in the bathroom such as the loo or sink.

Where space is minimal, you may want to consider a corner enclosure or an enclosure with a bi fold door, which folds into the enclosure rather than a hinged door which requires space for outward opening. You may even want to consider installing an over-bath shower set with shower screen.

Once you have measured the space for your shower, you also need to consider the positioning of any shower heads within that shower space. Think about the height of any wall mounted shower heads you would like to install, and also the depth in terms of where they reach within the shower itself. If you are looking to install accessories such as shower rail kits and body jets also consider where these will be positioned whilst you are in the shower and make sure you make a note of exactly where you would like them to be installed.

The next point to consider is what type of shower set you would like, as you can opt for a fully concealed shower, which is where all the pipe work is recessed within the walls of your shower, or an exposed shower, where the shower mixer is surface mounted on to your tiles. In terms of cost and installation, exposed showers are great value for money and very simple and easy to install. Concealed showers are more costly to install but they do allow you to choose one, two, or as many as three different shower outlets which can be used for different shower attachments including rainfall shower heads, shower rail kits and luxury accessories such as body jets.

In terms of exposed showers, the most popular choice is a combined all in one unit, which offers a both a fixed shower head and a riser rail with detachable handset plus a fully integrated shower mixer. The handset provides you with added flexibility for cleaning and also keeping your hair dry on those quick shower days.

These work incredibly well over a shower bath and with cool touch technology they are incredibly safe for use by all the family.

If you’ve ever stayed in a high end, luxury hotel, you would have probably experienced the sleek contemporary designs of a concealed shower system.

By concealing the pipe work you can maintain the clean lines of your bathroom décor which is particularly important if you are installing a minimalist glass enclosure, such as a walk in enclosure or upgrading your bathroom to expensive designer tiles.

Concealed showers allow you to fully customise your shower to your exact needs, and there are a wide range of different styles and designs available.
