Your bathroom should be a place you can relax and unwind in after a hard day at work. But if yours is looking more dingy and depressing than uplifting and inspiring, we've got some simple DIY bathroom tips to help transform your space. And the best bit? Not only are these easy DIY projects novice-proof, but they can also all be done on a budget too!

Be bold with your ceiling

If you're looking for an instant update, painting your ceiling a bold colour is the easiest way. And while it might be tempting to go for white, the trick to this trend is to go darker. Think moody blues, sea greens, and misty greys. The bolder you are with your choice the more impact it will have.

Re-grout your tiles

If your tiles are looking a little grubby around the edges and a spritz of bleach is no longer making them look gleaming, it might be time to re-grout them. Re-grouting sounds more daunting than it actually is, because it is in fact one of the easiest DIY home projects you can undertake that will make a massive change - just make sure you prep the area first and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
If you're more confident with your DIY, then why not switch up your old tiles for a low cost renovation project. From stencilled patchwork styles, to bright and bold with jewel-inspired tones, whatever style your looking for, bathroom tiles can help bring the whole scheme together.

Invest in a soft-close toilet seat

If you're sick of being woken up during the night by people slamming the toilet seat, then a soft-close toilet seat is for you. Not only are they practical, but they're pretty stylish too. The seats have sprung hinges to prevent them from being too loud when they close, and they're really easy to fit too.

Switch up your cupboard doors

If your bathroom or cloakroom features cupboards that are looking a little lacklustre, give them a quick makeover by changing the handles. Sleek matt black accessories look great if you're looking for an industrial theme, whilst antiqued metallics work perfectly in more traditional settings.

Update your mirror

Mirrors are great additions to any room. They can create the illusion of a larger space and can also add more light to a room – especially in under-stair cloakrooms. Adding an oversized circular mirror is an easy DIY bathroom project that can be completed in under an hour!
Furthermore, modern mirrors can incorporate all kinds of clever tech including demister pads, lighting, clocks, and even Bluetooth connection to your mobile phone so you can listen to music as you soak in the tub.

Change your towels

Less of a DIY project and more general housekeeping! But simply changing you bathroom towels for some that are oversized and fluffy can instantly update your bathroom – and give the feeling of a luxury hotel.
White bath sheets are the epitome of an indulgent bathroom accessories, especially when freshly laundered and warmed on a heated towel rail. But if you're looking to add a pop of colour, you can easily switch out the white for a hue that contrasts with the walls.

Install open shelving

You can never have enough storage in a bathroom, but for a modern update invest in open shelving. Open shelves are the perfect (and design-led) way to store handtowels, display your candles – and of course show off your more luxurious body creams and washes.
And for the ultimate Insta-worthy bathroom accessory, decant your shampoos and shower gels into matching brown glass bottles for apothecary chic.

Renew the flooring

The average British bathroom tends to be relatively small, so renewing the flooring isn't a massive expense. So if you're looking for a more advanced DIY bathroom project then overhauling your current flooring could be high up on the agenda.
Replace old flooring with modern tiles, laminate, or vinyl flooring surface – all of which are hygienic and easy to clean.

Create a gallery wall

Gallery picture walls have been a key trend for a few years, but they're a great way to inject some personality and interest into a space. They key for a successful wall is to stick to a similar colour palette or theme for your images.
For house bathrooms, black and white photos of your favourite family holidays are a great way to decorate an unused wall. And for guest bathrooms, vintage-inspired flora and fauna prints in oversized frames add a touch of grown-up glamour.
