When buying a shower screen, you’ll want to keep it looking as good as new. Yet, the reality is that as it's used daily, a shower screen quickly becomes dirty. So, this is the one bathroom fitting that requires regular cleaning. Yet, this is a bathroom cleaning task that you can perform weekly in quick time. Best of all, there are several simple products you can use. Most of these products can even be found in the kitchen cupboard! The Bathroom Showroom shows you how to keep your shower screen in tip-top condition.

What Are the Common Issues With Shower Screens?

Watermarks are pesky marks that get left behind on your shower screen. These are simply the effects of hard water drying on the glass. The result is a visual chalky limescale deposit.
Watermarks are irritating as they leave streaks on the screen surface. This means they make the shower glass look dull.
But, our shower screen is crucial in keeping our floors protected and the water in the bath or shower. So, inevitably watermarks are common, regular occurrences. Yet, they don't have to be problematic, and they can be removed with ease.

What Will Clean a Shower Screen?

Ultimately, the most basic ingredients are the best when cleaning your shower screen! Cleaning shower screens naturally has never been so popular.
No longer do we need to resort to expensive shop-bought products. Our kitchen cupboards most likely have everything we need to do this job effectively.
Overall, by using what we have we can help the environment. This is especially so with those products that have reduced chemicals. Yet, by using more natural ingredients you’ll be able to preserve the life of your shower screen.
What items you can use to effectively and safely clean your shower screen:
  • White Vinegar
  • Baking Soda

How to Clean a Shower Screen With White Vinegar

If your shower screen isn't overly dirty, then white vinegar should be enough to clean it.
  • Combine equal parts of white vinegar and water
  • Add the mixture to a spray bottle
  • Spray the entire shower screen
  • Take a soft cloth and gently wipe down the screen
  • Remove any excess water with a squeegee
  • Buff the screen clean with a soft, dry microfiber cloth

How to Clean a Shower Screen With Baking Soda

Your shower screen may be a little dirtier and require something a little stronger to cut through the dirt. If so, try adding baking soda. This acts like an abrasive to the dirt but is gentle on your screen.
  • Spray your white vinegar and water solution, as above, and allow the mixture to soak for around 10 minutes. This will help loosen up any particles of dirt.
  • After 10 minutes, dip a soft cloth into some baking powder and use this to clean the screen making circular motions. This should lift all the remaining dirt off.
  • Finally, spray the shower screen with fresh water to clean away all the baking soda and white vinegar solution.
  • Buff the screen clean with a soft, dry microfiber cloth

Keep Your Shower Screen Clean For Longer With Our Shower Screen Cleaning Tips

Finally, to further help reduce the overall time spent cleaning your shower screen, there are two preventative measures you can take:
1. Drying Your Shower Screen Regularly
Some people like to clean their shower after every use. One of the most effective ways of doing this is by keeping a squeegee near the shower. This way, when you turn the shower off, you can wipe the moisture off your screen each time, preventing the appearance of watermarks.
2. Ensuring Your Bathroom is Properly Ventilated
Good bathroom ventilation can help the water from your shower evaporate quicker. This means it has less time to form on your shower screen. By keeping the window open during showering and using a good extractor fan, you can speed up the drying process.
