Though the start of a new year can be exciting, the month of January is often a tough one for many people. With the UK weather at its worst and the come-down of the seasonal festivities, many people find themselves feeling a little deflated around this time.
However, such feelings aren't uncommon and there are some helpful ways to get through these trying colder months. Here at The Bathroom Showroom, we consider some quick but essentially valuable tips on getting through the month of January.

January is a Difficult Month For So Many Of Us

Due to a combination of factors, you're not alone if you find the first few weeks of the new year a little challenging.
  • Post-holiday blues: The festive season, with its excitement and social gatherings, can leave people feeling let down and lonely once it's over.
  • Financial strain: Many people overspend during the holidays, leading to financial stress in January.
  • Weather: In many parts of the world, January is the coldest and darkest month, which can negatively impact mood.
  • Lack of sunlight: Reduced sunlight exposure can disrupt sleep patterns and decrease serotonin levels, a neurotransmitter that contributes to feelings of happiness.
  • New Year's resolutions: While well-intentioned, these resolutions can create pressure and anxiety if they're unrealistic or too demanding.
But, it's important to remember that these feelings are common and there are ways to cope with the January blues. Here are some tips on how to create a soothing bath experience to help you beat the January blues:

How To Create Soothing Baths This Winter

There are several things that you can do when taking regular baths throughout January and the harsh winter months. The main objective is to set intentions.
By sectioning off dedicated time to taking regular baths during each week and prioritising this time solely for yourself, you’re ensuring your intentions and committing to a beneficial routine.
  • Set the mood: Dim the lights, safely light some candles, and put on some relaxing music. Warm and cosy bathroom lighting can go a long way in evoking a serene environment as well as promoting a safe calm space for you to regularly retreat to during the winter weeks.
  • Warm up the water: Make sure the water is warm, but not too hot. Alongside the most comfortable of room temperatures, the best bath temperature will create the right ambience and promote a safer and healthier environment for your relaxing time.
  • Add some winter bathroom scents: Lavender, chamomile, and ylang-ylang are all great for relaxation. Yet, look at adding those scents that lift your senses and create a powerful environment for you. From oils to bath bombs, bath bubbles to candles, scent is a powerful factor when evoking positive associations.
  • Soak in the tub: Relax and enjoy the warmth of the water. Block out the day’s activities and concentrate on creating a calming and indulgent experience each time you bathe. From deep breathing exercises through to positive visualisation, this is your time to promote a healthier mind space at the end of every day.
  • Hydrate: Make sure to drink plenty of water after your bath to keep yourself hydrated. A good time to do this is when you’ve got out of the bath and are sitting comfortably in your fluffy robes, taking a little further time out to relax and unwind and keep your mind calm and collected, reaping the benefits of your soothing bath.

The Lighter and Longer Days Are Upon Us

Though we may be in the depths of winter, it’s worth remembering that UK spring time is on its way. With the spring Equinox falling on the 20th of March this year, it goes without saying that spring really is just around the corner!
Until then, by doing something as small as making a commitment to self-care, you can keep your spirits lifted this winter while indulging in a soothing and most comforting bathing experience.
